WHERE IS IT? : It is in the Western district of Nepal, one hour flight from Kathmandu followed by a two hour drive from Pokhara. Nepal is currently ranked as the 28th poorest country in the world with a per capita income of £2200 pa. There is, therefore, not a lot of money for those whose needs are greatest.
WHAT IS IT?: The children in the hostel all attend the Janata Dhan Secondary School in Narayansthan. The hostel is their home for the school year but it is in need of a fair bit of TLC.
WHY HERE?: Why not? When I visited Baglung district last December I was shown a lot of projects by SWAN, all of them deserving help. But, I had to choose and the conditions these children were living in touched my nerve. If anybody wants to know about other projects please contact me.
WHAT OTHER PROJECTS?: Ooh, a goat buying project to promote economic independence (I liked that one), two or three earthquake damaged schools, a community building housing a library, nursery group etc. When more funds are raised then maybe we can help with those too, although goat buying may not fit the educational objectives submitted to the Commission (bet they wouldn’t mind though )
HOW CAN YOU HELP?: I need help. There are things I am good at and things I am not so good at. I would welcome assistance with everything from fundraising (too unfit for marathons, too wimpish for parachute jumps), admin (too disorganised), social events (too shy LOL) and, most of all, too short of time sometimes. I am clear of my recent illness (provisionally) so with hopefully raised energy levels I want to kick on with all of this. Any offers of help will be gratefully received and many thanks for those who have helped so far – too many to name
